A tennis pundit has shared insights regarding Nick Kyrgios' comments on the doping controversy surrounding Iga Swiatek. Swiatek has been suspended temporarily for a month after she tested positive for trimetazidine. She expressed her confusion about how the banned substance entered her system. In response, Kyrgios suggested that her explanation came across as an excuse.

Tennis pundit responded to Kyrgios remarks

Tennis analyst Gill Gross responded to Kyrgios's remarks, highlighting that the assertion made by the Australian player was inaccurate. He noted that Swiatek's appeal regarding her suspension was appropriately denied, as claiming ignorance could be interpreted as an admission of guilt under the set of rules of WADA.

"The excuse that we can all use is that we didn’t know. Simply didn’t know. Professionals at the highest level of sport can now just say we didn’t know" Kyrgios wrote.

"This claim is probably false. Iga said she didn’t know upon 1st appeal of the provisional suspension and was rejected (rightly so). Under WADA code, 'I don’t know' equals guilt. Those who avoid punishment do so precisely because they say 'I DO know, here’s what happened,'" Gross said.

This development regarding Swiatek's suspension followed after she propelled Poland to the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup.

Fritz and Osaka's take on Swiatek's doping case

Taylor Fritz and Naomi Osaka have made their voices heard regarding Iga Swiatek's doping scandal. Fritz expressed a strong opinion in a detailed message, highlighting the evident bias within the tennis community that favours narratives that align with their preferences. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka stood in support of Swiatek, showing her solidarity by sending a heart emoji on the Pole's Instagram post about her doping ban.

Swiatek is poised to compete at the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi, representing the Eagles alongside her compatriots Hubert Hurkacz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Paula Badosa. The Polish star has showcased her skills in the last two editions of this prestigious exhibition event, contributing to the Kites' runner-up finish in 2022. In 2023, she played a crucial role with the Hawks, teaming up with Ruud, Hurkacz, and Caroline Garcia.
