The day is not far away where the Madrid Open will now feature some of the top players in the league and we see the real competition start in the main draws of the competition. This will feature some of the biggest players in ATP that we love and support as tennis fans. It is safe to say that this is going to be another competitive ATP tournament where we will get to see some great matches.

There are a lot of back stories for some players in Madrid where there are some who have been successful during the competition and some who are yet to experience some success. This tournament being an ATP Masters 1000 can also play a huge role in the ranking positions of the players. Today we will be talking about who are the players that have won the most titles in the Spanish Capital, dominating the competition completely.

Here are the five players who have won the most titles in Madrid so far:

5. Carlos Alcaraz- 2 titles

alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz is said to be the next king of clay and he has shown it in almost every tournament he has featured in. The Spaniard is not only one of the top-ranked players but has been dominating this tournament as well. Carlos Alcaraz had made it to the finals in his first Madrid Open where he beat Alexander Zverev in 2022. Alcaraz went on to repeat his performance in the following year as well and beat German Jan Lennard Struff in 2023. This season will be the chance for Alcaraz can be the first player to win three Madrid Open titles in a row.

4. Andy Murray- 2 titles

Andy Murray might have fallen off the charts right now, but we can’t ignore his achievements in the past. Murray still had one of the best moments in the game in the late 2000s to early 2010s. The former world number 1 ranked player has won the Madrid Open twice, winning his first title in 2008 by beating Gilles Simon. Murray then won his second title after 7 years in 2015 after beating the king of clay Rafael Nadal in the final. He managed to make it to the final the next year as well but eventually failed to win it. We would have liked Murray to feature in the current season, but unfortunately, he will be missing it due to a devastating ankle injury in Miami.

3. Roger Federer- 3 titles

During the 2000’s there was nothing Roger Federer could not win. Though the Swiss Maestro had his problems on clay before due to his technical style of play, he managed to develop his game enough to make him dominate that side of his game as well. Federer first conquered Madrid in 2006 after beating Fernando Gonzalez. Federer has gone on to win 3 Madrid Open titles and has featured in 4 finals as well. This showed the prowess of Federer who also started improving his game on clay and became an unstoppable force in Tennis.

2. Novak Djokovic- 3 titles

This time we are talking about the current leader of the game and the third member of the holy trinity. Novak Djokovic came onto the scene to dominate every tournament in tennis. The Serbian player won three Madrid Open titles as well, winning his inaugural title in 2011 after beating Rafael Nadal in the final in two straight sets. He then went on to win a gruelling final in 2016 against Andy Murray who was the defending champion back then and won his last title in 2019. This was another tournament where Djokovic marked his presence once again.

1. Rafael Nadal- 5 titles

If there is a clay season tournament then it can never be out of Rafael Nadal's reach at all. The king of clay who is also known as El Nino due to his powerful topspin groundstrokes was the centre of attention in this tournament as well. Nadal has gone on to win 5 Madrid Open titles, winning his first title against Croatian Ivan Ljubicic in 2005. He was also the first player to win back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014. There is no doubt that this was another tournament where the King of Clay had marked his territory and kept on winning the big clay season tournaments.
