Paula Badosa, with her latest Washington Open 2024 win, not only ended her title drought but also silenced her critics. She faced massive criticism for skipping the Paris Olympics but ensured that the decision would pay off. The Spaniard outclassed Marie Bouzkova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to emerge victorious in the US Capital.

It was her first WTA crown since sustaining a severe back injury last year. Her last title win came at the 2022 Sydney International, where she defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the final.

In the recent championship match, Badosa won the first set but faced a tough fight from the Czech in the next set. However, the former World No. 2 held her nerve to claim a 6-4 win in the final set and clinch her fourth career title at the 2024 Citi Open.

Meanwhile, Badosa's boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas took to his social media to congratulate his long-time partner. He re-shared WTA's video on X along with a four-word message.

"Shut the front door. (with crown emoji)," Tsitispas posted.

Probably the most special moment of my career so far: Badosa reacts to her Citi Open win

Badosa, who received a wildcard entry to the main draw of the WTA 500, kicked off her campaign by defeating Sofia Kenin 6-1, 7-6(6) in the first round. The retirement of third seed Liudmila Samsonova from the second-round competition helped Badosa to advance to the quarterfinals without breaking a sweat.

Her quarter-final match was against another wildcard entry, Emma Radukanu. Despite losing the first set, Badosa bounced back in the next two sets. She went on to thrash Caroline Dolehide in straight sets in the semifinals to book her place in the final.

“I think it’s maybe the most special moment, especially because I went through a lot. I had to fight through that and I had to keep believing in myself,” Badosa said after her title win.

“One of my biggest goals was one day coming here and hopefully winning the tournament. This is probably the most special moment of my career so far,” she added.
