Paris 2024 Summer Olympics: Top 16 seeds for men's and women's singles tournaments announced

The tennis events at the Paris Olympics will begin on the inaugural day of July 27 and conclude on August 4.

The much-awaited Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are just a few days away. The tennis events will begin on the inaugural day of July 27 and conclude on August 4. All matches will be played at the iconic Stade Roland Garros, home of the French Open.

Tennis fans across the globe are looking forward to a week of intense action as their favourites come together. It is interesting to note that some veterans will perform their last dance at the Paris Olympics. The likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are unlikely to make the list for the next event.

On Monday, June 22, the top 16 seeds for the men's and women's singles tournaments were announced. A total of 172 players will compete across five medal events (singles and doubles across gender and mixed doubles) at the French capital.

The top 16 pre-seeds will not face each other in the first two rounds. Also, players from the same country cannot face each other in the first two rounds. One must win six matches to win the gold. 

Below is the list of 16 seeds in men's and women's tournaments: 

Men

Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Álex de Miñaur, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, Sebastián Báez, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Arthur Fils

Women

Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini, Jessica Pegula, Qinwen Zheng, Maria Sakkari, Danielle Collins, Barbora Krejcikova, Jelena Ostapenko, Emma Navarro, Marta Kostyuk, Donna Vekic, Beatriz Haddad-Maia, Diane Shnaider, Leylah Fernandez

Fans will not be surprised to see the player names as they are similar to the current rankings. Top seed Jannik Sinner, Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and runner-up Novak Djokovic are considered favourites from the men’s category. Meanwhile, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Jasmine Paolini are likely to make big strides in the women’s competition.
