In sports, the prize money debate has been an age-old issue. However, we have all witnessed gender-based pay gaps or the uneven distribution of prize money at events. Tennis is no different, as it is one of the leading games that face prize money issues.
While American sports with the likes of football and basketball give out handsome money to the players, it was seen that tennis lags far behind in this matter. In addition, only a few players in tennis can make good money out of the sport, while the others even struggle to cope with the travelling and stay expenses while appearing in different competitions across the world.
Following the same, after Nick Krygios called out these glaring issues, tennis legend Novak Djokovic was quick to back his friend. Notably, the 29-year-old Aussie star has teamed up with Novak Djokovic to play doubles at the Brisbane International 2025, but the duo went down fighting in the pre-quarters.
However, Nick Kyrgios addressed the problem of prize money in this sport being far less than in other sports.

The pie split between the governing bodies in major sports, all major American sports, is around 50 per cent, maybe more. Ours is way lower than that. It is true.
