The 2014 US Open was full of surprises where we saw all the top 10 ranked players bow out of the contest. It was Marin Cilic, the man who took the title and was the 14th seeded player in the tournament. Cilic went onto beat the likes of Roger Federer and won his maiden Grand Slam title after beating the Japanese supertar Kei Nishikori in the finals and script history. However, after this feat the Croatian could not really keep his consistency and eventually fell down from the rankings.
Many tennis players have dreamt of winning a Grand Slam and when they achieve this feat they already become sensations for the sport of tennis. There are also some players who had won a Grand Slam and surprised everyone one in the World of tennis. One of them was Marin Cilic who shocked the whole sporting World in 2014.

Cilic finally wins a title
Cilic had the best of times in his career since his Silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. The 2014 Grand Slam win might have got him up the ranks for a while where he was also among the top 3 ranked players in the game as well. Unfortunately, for Cilic, he could not repeat those great performances and is even out of the top 100 rankings. However, the Hangzhou Open saw the 35-year-old veteran finally win his first title this season after beating Chinese number one player Zhizhen Zhang in the finals. This is definitely a moment to celebrate for Cilic after having another horrible season.
This win has not only brought Cilic some importnat ATP points but he has also scripted another historic achievemant as he becomes the lowest ranked player to win a ATP title. This is finally the moment which Cilic will celebrate since it has not really been a season to remmber for him. We can hope to see some more title wins from the tennis star.
