It seems like a news article broke world number 2 tennis star Alexander Zverev’s ‘sleep of peace’ somewhere in his days off the field. The German international didn’t take too long to bash the yellow journalism for making up fake news and claiming that the player made serious accusations against his former coach Ivan Lendl.

“He got a new dog and is showing him how to go to the toilet. That’s his main concern. And golf,” read a news article and quoted it as a statement by Alexander Zverev.

It didn’t stop here only in that particular news piece, it further quoted Zverev as saying, “Papa is better than Lendl. For me, that’s not a question at all. I think it was an experience for me to see what and how other coaches think about my tennis. It didn’t work out well with Lendl. It’s not a secret. We may not have been a good match either. We just saw things differently on the tennis court, during training sessions.”

Furthermore, fake news happened to find the social media feed of the man himself [Alexander Zverev]. He was left completely fuming after getting the statements credited to his name which he never spoke.

Everybody is very bored right now because it is the off-season - Alexander Zverev

The 27-year-old took his Instagram handle and shared a brief story, expressing his anger and bashing the media outlet for running a piece of fake news and setting a false narrative. Zverev also shared the screenshot of the headline of the article shared about his statements.

“So, apparently, I gave an interview about my coaching relationship with Ivan Lendl recently, which is not true. In fact, I have not spoken to anyone from the press since my foundation event in Tonnenhof one day after Turin and I have not made any comments about my coaching relationship [with Ivan Lendl] in more than five years,” wrote Zverev in his Instagram story, alongside sharing the article’s screenshot.

“I understand that everybody is very bored right now because it is the off-season and not much is happening except a lot of hard work, but this shows once again that some stories have to be completely made up by very bad journalism to keep readers interested in made up drama,” he added while criticizing the quality of journalism nowadays.
