The Polish star eventually suffered a defeat against the Russian, which ended her hope of defending the title. Swiatek's gesture was even criticized by the tennis fraternity after the loss, and the fans showed no sympathy towards her after her exit from the WTA 1000 Masters.

The five-time Grand Slam winner took to Instagram and penned down a lengthy and emotional post. Iga Swiatek admitted that she was frustrated in the game but did not intend to hurt the ball boy in the game. The world number two further clarified that she later made eye contact with the ball boy and apologized to him after her game.

The star player further added in her post that she didn't even imagine such harsh judgment from the tennis fraternity for her behavior in this controversial ball boy incident.

"It's true - I expressed frustration in a way I'm not proud of. My intention was never to aim the ball at anyone but merely to release my frustration by bouncing it on the ground. I immediately apologized to the ball boy, we made eye contact, and nodded to each other when I expressed regret that it happened near him," Iga Swiatek wrote on Instagram.
