Australia’s very own Tennis player Jordan Thompson has started his home Grand Slam campaign with a win against Dominik Koepfer by winning the match 7-6 (3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The Australian hasn't progressed beyond the second round of the Australian Open and we hope this year he breaks the jinx and moves to round 3.

Aussie wins the 1st Round

The Aussie won the first two sets and lapsed the third against the Koepfer. To close the game he needed a win in the fourth set. The German made some tough errors during the game and Thompson grabbed the opportunity and attacked the Dominik. The Game went on for three hours and 15 minutes, Jordon didn't spill any beans in between the game and finally triumphed the match.

It was a big relief for the Australian after winning. Jordan said “It's good to get through the first match and hopefully won't stop there. It was a very special year. We’re all trying to push each other. I think we’ve got three-seeded (home players) at the Australian Open.

Demons are in the top 10. I’m pushing forward, singles and doubles. The list goes on. We’re all just pushing each other (Australian seeds) and it's great to see. Hopefully, we get a few more Aussies with a few more wins.” Thompson will meet Portugal’s Nino Borges in the second round.

Jordan won his first singles title in Los Cabos, Mexico and achieved a career-highest ranking of No 26. He is also a five-time doubles champion and one of them was a US Open Grand Slam Title which he won with his fellow Australian Max Purcell. He also finished as the runner-up in Wimbledon.
