The Madrid Open has begun and there have already been some big surprises and some great matches to look at. With the best players now in the mix we can surely expect some great and intense matches in the future. The player who has been in the form of his life is Jannik Sinner who has already won two ATP tournaments after his grand slam triumph in the Australian Open.
The young Italian has been showing some consistent performances this season and is currently the highest-seeded player expected to give a great performance in this tournament. Sinner started the tournament well with a victory in two straight sets against fellow countryman Lorenzo Sonego in the 2nd round. We can be sure that the world number 2 will be one of the favourites to win this tournament and get his first victory in this year's clay season. During this great run so far Sinner has entered the record books as well.
Sinner undefeated against compatriots
With this dominant victory over Sonego, Sinner is now undefeated against his Italian compatriots. In the last 13 games, Jannik Sinner has yet to lose to his fellow countrymen at the ATP level. With a winning streak of 13-0, he is only the 4th player to achieve this feat after legendary players Manuel Orantes, Bob Hewitt and Guillermo Vilas. This shows how good this season has been for him where he has not only won the grand slam but has been really consistent as well.
This shows that Sinner is comfortably one of the best upcoming talents in tennis right now and there is no stopping him right now. We can also comfortably say that he is one of the best players in his country as well after this epic record. Sinner will be now looking forward to the third round of the competition. This will also be his third ATP title if he manages to win which will only give him confidence going forward.
