This was a journey every tennis fan remembers even after his retirement back in 2022 which was emotional for everyone in the game of tennis.

There is no doubt that the titles won by Federer were iconic, but what we all will also remember are the iconic matches he has been part of as well. However, it is still tough to pick which match is the best out of the lot. This is a question that has caused a lot of debate among the fans as well.

Federer picks his favorite match

There are alot of games which Federer might have enjoyed in his long and decorated career in the game of tennis, There would have been many thinking that it could have been his 2017 Australian Open game against Nadal or his 2019 close defeat agains Novak Djokovic, but it turns out that the Swiss legend has picked his 2001 Wimbledon match against the legendary Pete Sampras which might only be a 4th round match but was still a five set thriller where we saw a 19-year-old Federer against the then World number one.

Federer also gave his reasons to why it was his favorite game saying " He was my hero at the time, and this was both my first time and my only time to play against Sampras." Federer was also pleased that the match went down to 5 sets and he got the chance to beat one of the best in the game for the first time. In the end he3 ended his statement saying " There was just so much going on in my head, it was fairytale stuff. And I don’t know if this was the first time or the second time in my career when I cried after winning." This statement itself shows how much this game meant to Roger Federer.
