Tennis sensation and world number one Jannik Sinner defeated Aussie favourite Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena of Melbourne Park on January 22. The Italian sensation has stormed into the semi-finals and is set to face 22-year-old American sensation Ben Shelton in the next round. The 23-year-old is set to defend his title and might face Alexander Zverev or Novak Djokovic in the final thriller.

Sinner had a great start to the game, winning the opening set comfortably. Sinner maintained his great form heading to the next two sets and marked the straight-sets win to knock the home favourite from the first Grand Slam of the year.

After winning the thrilling encounter, Jannik Sinner opened up about being a semifinalist and defending champion in Melbourne. Sinner stated that he never takes anything for granted, which makes him an exceptional star. The 23-year-old tennis sensation aims to bring good tennis to the court. The world number one accepted that playing against Alex de Minaur had never been easy for him.

“Every time is different, no? The first times you always remember. And then when you do it again, you're still very, very happy to be here, no? You know, we just never take things for granted. I'm happy to be here. I'm happy trying to bring some good tennis when it counts, and that's it, no? I like the conditions here to play, and the crowd is amazing. It was very respectful today. Knowing that playing against Alex here, it's not easy. You know, I'm just trying to enjoy this moment, and then we see how it goes," Jannik Sinner said in the post-match press conference.
