Australia's tennis star Nick Kyrgios, who is set to mark his comeback to this tour for the first week of the new edition, has said that he is extremely keen on getting a chance to play world number one Jannik Sinner at the 2025 Australian Open, slated to take place in mid-January in Melbourne. After having just played one official match in the past two editions due to major injuries, the 29-year-old tennis star will return to the tour in Brisbane and then head to Melbourne for the first Grand Slam of the year.
During his time on the sidelines, the Canberra-born star has been very outspoken and critical about the world number one's positive test, for which he was declared to be of no fault at all by the ITI Agency.
If I played him in the Australian Open, I’d get every person in the crowd to get on him: Nick Kyrgios
Notably, WADA has recently appealed that decision, and the Italian could face suspension or a ban from the forthcoming matches if the World Anti-Doping Agency wins its appeal at the CAS. Following that, Nick said he was keen to play Sinner and would turn every person in his home against the world number one.
"Once you get caught, you can’t act like the victim... That’s what pisses me off... you employ your team, don’t you?. Let’s be honest... I really want to go out there and I really want to play Sinner. If I played him in the Australian Open, I’d get every person in the crowd to get on him. I would turn into an absolute riot. All respect would go out the window and I would just do anything to win. I haven’t failed any drug tests. It’s nothing personal," Nick Kyrgios said.
