'I was one match away...' - Alexander Zverev aims to challenge Jannik Sinner for ATP top ranking

The Hamburg-born star has expressed optimism in battling for the top spot in the ATP rankings. The 2024 Roland Garros runner-up thought he had been touching the distance from claiming the top spot in the ATP rankings, and there he will continue to push for the next rankings in 2025.

Zverev feels that he is in a great spot and is just one match away from leading the ATP charts. The 27-year-old tennis legend feels that he never thought he would be able to compete in the game and get the best rankings after his return from the injury. The star player also talked about how he was on the verge of winning the Grand Slam on many occasions. The Germany-born star aims to remain healthy and fit.

I never was sure I was going to be back at that level: Alexander Zverev

“Yeah, I mean, for me, look, I think in 2022, before I got injured, I was very close to world number one. I was one match away from being world number one. Of course, I’m happy to be back in that position. I’m happy that I am competing for hopefully big events, competing for the best spots in our sport. I was never sure I was ever going to do that again, especially after the injury, I never was sure I was going to be back at that level,” Alexander Zverev said.
