Australian tennis star and Wimbledon 2022 finalist Nick Kyrgios opens up on his infamous underarm serve against King of Clay Rafael Nadal that spread a lot of hate towards him. The Aussie Wild Child has no regret for that decision and wanted to get the Spanish legend out of rhythm in the match.
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios was one of the upcoming stars in the game who has suddenly fallen out of contention recently. Kyrgios is now known for some of the controversies he has been a part of and has made some earth-shattering statements recently as well. Though the former World number 13 is looking forward to making a comeback and has his focus on the Australian Open, he is still facing a lot of criticism from the people.
Kyrgios on the underarm controversy
The first controversy that brought Kyrgios into the limelight was his underarm service against Rafael Nadal in the 2014 Wimbledon round 4 game. This was one of the biggest upsets in the World of tennis where Kyrgios beat Nadal in a 4-set thriller but was criticized for his underarm service against the Spanish legend.
Kyrgios went on to talk about the incident having no regrets for what he did saying, "I did it against Nadal. He is known for returning the ball like really far back in the court, so it's hard to get a free point. So I needed to do something to get this guy out of this rhythm, and I did it and the whole tennis world called me really disrespectful, but, I won the match. So, I found a way."
This was one of the first controversial moments featuring Kyrgios who was only 19 at the time. We all know that Kyrgios is not the most trustworthy individual who we can agree with every time but on this occasion, we have to agree with him in this matter since he did not break any rules, and even though we can hate him for this we have to appreciate him for using his game IQ.
