The US Open 2024 has been full of surprises as we are now going into the semi finals tomorrow. There have been some surprising results which none of us expected at all in the tournament. There were a lot of favorites in the tournament who faced an early exit already. This will be the rare occassion where only two players in the top 10 rankings are alive in the tournament.
The quarter finals have also had some shocking results with one ofv them being the match between Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz, where we saw the World number 4 suffer a 4-set defeat against the American number 1 player. Zverev who was one of the clear favorites to atleast make it to the finals of the tournament was completely outclassed in this game which ruins his Grand Slam hopes once again.
Zverev furious in press conference
There is no doubt this was a disappointing moment for Zverev in this tournament where he lost to Taylor Fritz for the second consecutive time in a Grand slam tournament. The disappointment was noticeable during the Press conference of the former Olympic Gold medalist as he was visibly angry with himself saying " mean, I was missing shots which were in the middle of the court with no pace, and bottom of the net. Terrible. Just absolutely terrible by me."
Zverev did not stop there as he further empahsized on his back hand as well where he stated " My forehand was okay, actually. My serve was okay. But my most reliable shot, the shot that I'm most known for, the shot that you normally wake me up at 3:00 a.m. and I would not miss was absolutely not there today, and I have no words for it, to be honest.” With these words it was evident that the German superstar was not happy at the way he approached the game at all and he had shown all his frustration in the press conference as well.
