Novak Djokovic recently ‘completed’ tennis after winning his maiden gold medal at the Olympics. The 37-year-old defeated young sensation Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in a nerve-racking final at Roland Garros on Sunday, becoming the only fifth player in the sport's history to achieve a Career Golden Slam.

The Serbian began his journey by clinching the 2008 Australian Open title. He won the Wimbledon Open and US Open for the first time in 2011 and completed his Career Slam by winning his maiden French Open title in 2016. However, despite winning bronze at his maiden Olympics in 2008, Djokovic had to wait perhaps until his final attempt in Paris to get his hands on the elusive gold medal.

Djokovic set for Shanghai Masters return after five years

However, the latest milestone doesn't mean his quest for titles is over. Djokovic revealed his maiden assignment since the Olympics triumph. He is set to return to the Shanghai Masters for the first time in five years. With 34 wins and four titles from 39 matches, Nole is the most successful player in Shanghai.

In a short message shared on the tournament’s social media pages, the 24-time Grand Slam champion said: “Hello! I can’t wait to be back to play in the Rolex Shanghai Masters. You are so great China, I love you – thank you!”

As the legendary player plans to travel to China at the end of September, it marks his first visit to Shanghai since 2019. He had a forgettable outing as Stefanos Tsitsipas emerged victorious in the last eight of the tournament.

Djokovic won his first title in 2012 by defeating Andy Murray in the final. In 2013, he defeated Juan Martin del Potro to retain his title. The next year didn't shine, but in 2015 he beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to regain the title, before his record fourth title in 2018, beating Borna Coric in the final.
