'He has big issues'- Jannik Sinner on Novak Djokovic's Australian Open 2025 Retirement

The world's No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner supported Novak Djokovic after the legend withdrew from the semi-finals of the 2025 Australian Open due to injury.

The First semifinal match between Tennis Legend Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev ended in a shocker. After completing just one set, the 10-time Australian Open champion pulled out of the game citing a serious injury. During his quarterfinal match with Carlos Alcaraz, he had some issues in the first set and took a medical timeout. After losing the first set to Alcaraz, Novak won the remaining sets and won the match. The battle with the Alcaraz was long and hard and lasted for more than 3 and a half hours.

Though Novak had won the battle, the scars were still left which has now cost him the Australian Open Grand Slam. Many fans even said Novak was acting with his injuries to break the momentum of Carlos, but now the serbian proved he was not acting. During the semifinal match with Zverev, the serbian played with a lot of pain and already took his painkillers, but even then it didn't work out for him. 

He eventually gave up and retired from the tournament. Semifinals winner Alexander Zverev showed huge support and respect to Novak as he requested the crowd not to boo the serbian as he has given everything to the sport and asked them to show respect. Even during his press meet the German defended Djokovic for his injuries.

Sinner Supports Novak Djokovic

Now the defending champion Jannik Sinner sends a message, supporting Novak after his semifinal win against Ben Shelton. He was asked to speak about Djokovic's injury and retirement. Sinner said, “I havent seen. I was warming up. I didnt see it live. I saw after how it happened. It's very unfortunate to see these kinds of things, especially in the semifinals of Grand Slams.”

The Italian added, “But if Novak retires, means that he has big issues. He has won here in the past with some physical problems, and he always tried to do his best. He has given so much until now in his career for this sport. It's unfortunate to see. I wish him a speedy recovery.” Jannik Sinner will play his second Australian Open finals against Alexander Zverev. Sinner already won the AO grand slam last year by defeating Daniil Medvedev. This year he is defending his title against the German who has never won a Grand Slam title till now.
