Tennis legend Novak Djokovic seemed to be remaining noncommittal about his future with his new coach, Andy Murray, after the 24-time Grand Slam champion withdrew in the 2025 Australian Open semi-final at the Rod Laver Arena of the Melbourne Park on January 24. While confirming that he has only positive feedback to give three-time major winner Murray, Djokovic stated that he would be discussing the future of their player-coach relationship once they moved past the disappointing result in the 2025 Australian Open.

Notably, the Serbian ace partnered with his former rival and close friend Andy Murray in a move that came as a pleasant surprise to the tennis fraternity. The 37-year-old tennis legend has brought Andy Murray into his coaching team for the Australian Open 2025. The relationship between these two tennis stalwarts was evident from the moment when both started working together in a bid for Novak's 25th Grand Slam of his career and 11th Melbourne title.

However, the displeasure on Murray's face was extremely visible many times when the 24-time Grand Slam winner retired after losing the first set to the world number two, Alexander Zverev, in the men's singles semifinal showdown at Rod Laver Arena on Jan 24. The Serbian legend failed to continue in the second set due to a muscle tear. The 10-time Australian Open champion battled through pain in both the first set and his quarter-final win over Carlos Alcaraz, which has worsened his leg injury.

Djokovic drops huge hint on Andy Murray's future as his coach

“I don’t know. We both were disappointed with what just happened. So, we didn’t talk about the future steps. You know, we are so fresh off the court. I will definitely have a chat with Andy and thank him for being here with me and give him my feedback, which is of course positive and see how he feels and we make the next step. I think we both need to cool off a little bit and then we will have a chat,” Novak Djokovic said in the post-match presentation.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to see whether their partnership between two former rivals turned players and coach continues as Djokovic goes into the recovery phase.
