Teenage sensation Jakub Mensik is the Miami Open 2025 champion. The 19-year-old tennis star has defeated 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic with a scoreline of 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) in the final showdown on the hard courts in Florida. Mensik and Djokovic had a fine start, forcing the game into the tiebreaker. However, the Czech star fought hard to take the opening set lead.
Mensik continued his great form in the next sets and dominated his pace, which allowed him to gain an advantage over Djokovic's weakness. The 19-year-old star player shocked not only his opponent but the whole tennis fraternity with his stellar performance.
Why was Jakub Mensik pulling out from the Miami Open 2025?
Surprisingly, Mensik credited his win to his physio, who pushed him to win the game. The 19-year-old tennis star revealed that he was holding the paper to pull out from the tournament due to a knee injury, but he failed to do so as the referee was on lunch.
However, Mensik's physio, Alejandro, has motivated and encouraged him, which bolstered his confidence. The Miami Open 2025 champion revealed that just because of his coach, he is winning the trophy and stepped onto the court.
“Big special thanks to one of the ATP physios, Alejandro. One hour before my first match here I was holding the paper to pull out from the tournament because my knee was hurting a lot. I was just lucky that the referee was having lunch. Then for the last time I came for the treatment. He did a miracle. Because of him I stepped on the court. Because of him I’m standing here," Jakub Mensik said after the win.
