Tennis star Jannik Sinner has been performing spectacular tennis to start the grass-court swing. The Italians went on to defeat Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarterfinal match of the ongoing Halle Open 2024 to make it to the semi-finals of the marquee event. Notably, he defeated his German rival 6-2, 6-7 (1), and 7-6 (3) and advanced to 3-0 against him.
This was his first tournament since earning the top spot. The defending champion of the Australian Open had to settle for three sets in his opening two matches of the week, but on Friday he showed signs of power, easily winning the first set and going on to take a third successive three-setter on OWL Arena in two hours and twenty-nine minutes.

Jannik has reached SF or better in 7 of the 8 events he’s played this year
The only event he didn’t reach the semis was Madrid, where he had to withdraw
✅1st grass SF of 2024
✅36-3 in 2024
✅56-5 since US Open
Absurd consistency.

Except for that, Sinner is participating in his first tournament since reaching the Roland Garros semifinals, where he was narrowly defeated in five sets by eventual finalist Carlos Alcaraz. The 22-year-old, an earlier Wimbledon semifinalist, appeared ready to go comfortably onto the grass, but he has faced difficult competition after losing his opening round match to Tallon Greikspoor.
Speaking about the game here, the top seed faced another three-setter as he dropped a second-set tiebreaker to Fabian Marozsan before winning the Hungarian, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3. He had already battled back from a set down to upset the in-form Dutchman, 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2. Sinner, who had defeated the unseeded German twice in 2024, both times in straight sets, entered the clash against Struff with obvious confidence despite the extended time on the court.

Hopefully, I’ll show some good tennis: Jannik Sinner
Meanwhile, the Italians were ecstatic after the great win over Jen-Lennard Struff. The world number one revealed his emotions when he lost the second set of the game.
“It was a very tough match. I had chances in the 2nd and chances in the 3rd, but I couldn’t take them. It was 0-40, he was serving. I just tried to accept this kind of challenge he’s. It was very tough mentally. I’m very pleased to be in the next round. I played a lot yesterday and today. 2 hours on grass is a long time. I’ll try to recover for tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll show some good tennis,' Sinner said after the win.
