The French Open director Amélie Mauresmo has talked about Iga Swiatek's chances of defending her title in Paris. The former French tennis star believes that the star player still has a chance and talked about the key factor that can allow her to defend her title here on the Paris clay court.

Notably, Swiatek has already marked her presence in the French Open 2025 and started her practice of defending her title here. The Polish star has not made it to any final of the Grand Slam or WTA tour after winning the French Open 2024.

Can Iga Swiatek defend her title?

The star player was ranked number one after winning the Mutua Madrid Open, the Italian Open, and the French Open and being hailed as 'Queen of Clay'. However, her shaky form has dropped her to world number five, with Sabalenka leading the charts and emerging as a top favourite to win the title here.

Despite that, Mauresmo stated that the former world number one still has a chance to win the tournament. She just needs a bit of luck and confidence to defend her title here. The former Australian Open and Wimbledon champion feels that Swiatek is very dangerous when it comes to clay courts and problematic for her opponents in the second Grand Slam of the year. The 45-year-old tennis star talked about how mental wellness can play a huge role here.

"I think that she can still have a chance... I think the beginning of the tournament will be key, definitely, to have this confidence going again. You need these first few matches, one, two, three, to get the rhythm going, get the confidence a little bit higher, and get it up a little bit. But Iga on this court is always dangerous. She's always going to be a problem for any player she's going to face. It's also going to be interesting to see how she reacts to this mentally," Mauresmo said (via TNTSports).
