Rivalries have been part and parcel of the game in the tennis World and we have enjoyed every moment of them especially when they feature some of the greatest players in the world. The big three were some of the most dominant players in the sport who we all have loved and though the rivalry among the three legends was great the closest and the most intense rivalry was between Serbian powerhouse Novak Djokovic and King of Clay Rafael Nadal.

Novak Djokovic and Nadal have faced each other in 60 matches in their career and have been a part of some of the greatest tennis matches. The two have had some great battles on the court and though the head-to-head is led by Novak Djokovic with the record being 31 to 29, it is safe to say that Nadal has proved to be one of the toughest people to face the 24-time Grand Slam winner during his career.

Djokovic on the scarcity of Roland Garros titles and rivalry with Nadal

There is no doubt that Novak Djokovic is right now the man who has won it all in the tennis World right from Grand Slams to Olympic Gold medals in his career. Djokovic has won 10 Australian Opens, 7 Wimbledon's and 4 US Open's, but has not had the same dominance in the Roland Garros where he only has 3 titles to his name.

Djokovic has also opened up on the reason for the scarcity of French Open titles saying, "Every time you step on that court with him, he is the favourite. Even at the Olympics, he had injury problems, I was in better shape, but still, you know it is the highest mountain to climb. He is the greatest, maybe the only reason why I don’t have more Roland Garros titles. Every win against him there is worth twice as much."

The words from Djokovic are enough to tell us why Djokovic has not got a very dominant record against Nadal on clay. It is safe to say that Djokovic might be the greatest of all time right now but the Spaniard will always be the King of Clay.
