Tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the qualifying rounds of the French Open 2024, which is set to start on May 26 in Paris. Notably, her withdrawal just came after she refused a wild card entry into Tournamnet's main draw. It was reported that the 21-year-old had not been handed a wild entry this time.
However, the organisers had shared the list of qualifying draws for the upcoming French Open 2024, which saw her name completely cut off. The star player has yet to reveal the reason behind her withdrawal. Meanwhile, the Toronto-born player gets a wild card in the recently concluded Mutua Madrid Open 2024, where she suffered a defeat in the first round against Maria Lourdes Carle as she claimed that she was ill, making her lose the game in the opening round.
"The last few weeks have been a lot. Starting from the Billie Jean King Cup, I haven’t stopped. It’s just been back-to-back and I was very happy being able to help carry the team in the BJK Cup,then straight to Stuttgart with no rest, then straight here and trying to adapt to the conditions which are very different because it’s outdoors and I was playing indoors for the last month," Emma Raducanu said (via The Guardian).
The prize money gap is huge on the ATP tour, which I don’t necessarily think is fair: Emma Raducanu
Raducanu has shared her thoughts on the money gap that exists between men's and women's competitions. The Brit admits that she doesn't enjoy the men's workload, yet many tournaments continue to award the guys more freely, which she feels is discriminatory.
“A lot of women’s players are technically better. They rely on speed, agility and brain rather than brute strength. The prize money gap is huge on the ATP tour, which I don’t necessarily think is fair, but equally playing three sets in the slams is a lot better than the men’s five, which is brutal," she added further.
