Novak Djokovic pulled out of the Cincinnati Open 2025, where he has won three titles, including the most recent one in 2023. The Serbian cited a non-medical reason for his decision and is unlikely to play any major tournament till the US Open 2025. Following his exit from Wimbledon 2025, Djokovic felt age was finally getting the better of him.
Following his loss to Jannik Sinner in the Semifinal of Wimbledon 2025, the star player claimed he has struggled to play 5-setter matches lately. The veteran accepted that his situation gets worse the longer the tournament goes. He claimed that playing the likes of Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has been challenging for him at his age.
"I guess playing best-of-five, particularly this year, has been a real struggle for me physically. The longer the tournament goes, yeah, the worse the condition gets. I reach the semis of every slam this year, but I have to play Sinner or Alcaraz," said Djokovic in his statement.
"I feel like I'm going into the match with half empty," - Novak Djokovic on facing Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Djokovic regarded Alcaraz and Sinner to be fit, young, and sharp, while he was half empty by the time he played the semifinal. He felt the time had come for him to accept reality and make the most of what's left in him.

"These guys are fit, young, sharp. I feel like I'm going into the match with half empty. It's just not possible to win a match like that. It is what it is, you know? It's one of these things I accept and embrace in some way, deal with the reality the way it is, and try to make the most out of it, I guess," Djokovic added.
