This clay season has been a comeback for some players right now. The WTA tournaments have been equally intense as well. There have been a lot of players like Victoria Azarenka and Elina Svitolina who have featured in this tournament. This is the chance for these talented players to finally come up the rankings. There have been a lot of titles on the line in the current ongoing season right now.
One of the players who needed to come back in this season was Danielle Collins. Collins suddenly went down the rankings and had a major drop in form in 2023. The American was turning 30 and it seemed like her chances of coming back were very slim. The only way Collins could make a comeback this season was in the WTA tours since she had already missed out on the Australian Open this season. That is exactly what happened when Collins surprised everyone when she won the Miami Open after defeating Elena Rybakina in the Miami Open finals in two straight sets.
Collins wins another title
The Charleston Open was a chance for Collins to introduce herself in the clay season. Just like Miami, Collins looked in the form of her life when she made it to another WTA finals facing higher-ranking player Daria Kasatkina in two straight sets. This might have been a one-sided affair, but it was another WTA victory for Collins. This has started to be a great season for the 2022 Australian Open finalist. After beating Kasatkina with 6-2 in the first and 6-1 in the second set Collins has now moved up the rankings rapidly.
This victory has put Collins back into the top 20 as she has moved from the 50th position to the 15th position. It is great to see Collins at her peak right now after a struggle last season. We will be hopeful that she finally moves higher up the rankings. This is a great start to the season for one of the most talented players from the United States of America. With the French Open coming close as well it will be interesting to see how consistently she can keep her great form going.
