Defending Champion of the Flushing Meadows, Coco Gauf, is ready to face the challenges that await her at the US Open 2024. World number 3 Tennis star is positive of her chances to seize the US crown for the second consecutive time. Gauf is drawing inspiration from Positive comments on her Tiktok and stories of elite Olympians who share the same big stage as hers, even if it's in some other sport.

Gauf considers herself privileged for the opportunity of entering the competition as the defending champion and is embracing all the pressure that comes along with the title.

"If you defend, that means you won something before," - Gauf stated.

Gauf's Underwhelming Season

Gauf had her fair share of struggles during the past season, where she desperately struggled to maintain consistency. After winning her maiden US crown here at the Flushing Meadows last year, she failed to win anything else during the next 12 months.

Gauf crashed out in the semi-finals of both the Australian Open and Ronald Garros; she failed to make it past the fourth round at Wimbledon and hit rock bottom at the Paris Olympics. She fell in the third round at Toronto and crashed out of the first match of her Cincinnati title defence.

Gauf's source of Inspiration : Elite Olympians and Tiktok

Despite her continued struggle, Gauf said that she is drawing inspiration from athletes she met at the Olympics, including America's 200m gold medallist Gabby Thomas.

Meeting athletes from other sports made Gauf realise that she is not isolated in the way she feels; other athletes playing other sports feel the same way and share similar struggles.

Gauf said "The nerves, you realize nerves are normal, the pressures are all normal. It doesn't make them easier but I think it helps you know you're not carrying the weight alone. "

Gauf further added - " I think I just learned that everything I feel, other athletes are feeling it in their sports, and they're undisputed best at what they've done, especially this past Olympics."

One of the positive comments on Gauf's Tiktok read - 'you've won literally and figuratively. Why stress yourself out over a victory lap?' The TikTok comment changed Gauf's outlook heading into the US Open 2024.

Gauf stated - " So I think I saw that comment, like, three days ago, and I was, like, 'OK, I'm going to stick by that and use that', because it changed my perspective coming into this "

Notably, Coco Gauff will start her title defence against France's Varvara Gracheva in the first round at the Flushing Meadows.
