Coco Gauff donates $100,000 to UNCF To help fund scholarships for HBCU students playing tennis

Tennis sensation Coco Gauffhas donated $100,000 to the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) to create "The Coco Gauff Scholarship Program.". This new initiative is set to provide scholarships for students playing competitive tennis at HBCUs. The UNCF will administer the scholarship program, with awards taking place from May 1. The 20-year-old stated that her family is deeply rooted in HBCUs and that she wanted to extend her support to young Black athletes so that they can pursue tennis as their goal.

The American sensation aims that the scholarship will give young Black players confidence and a strong community behind their backs. Notably, a plethora of the members have attended or are part of HBCUs. In recognition of Gauff's US Open win in 2023, the USTA committed $3 million to tennis courts.

Notably, Gauff has been the highest-paid athlete, earning $30.4 million from prize money and endorsements. UNCF is the nation's biggest and most effective minority education to support children.

Coco Gauff launches 'The Coco Gauff Scholarship Program'

"My family has a deep-rooted history with HBCUs, going all the way back to my great, great grandfather. From aunts and uncles to cousins, HBCUs have played a huge role in shaping who we are. I want to help the next generation of student-athletes continue pursuing their passion for tennis while reaching their academic goals. My hope is that this scholarship gives more young Black players the confidence to chase their dreams, knowing they have a strong community behind them and a bright future ahead," Coco Gauff said.
