It is the semi final day at the Monte Carlo Masters and the surprises are coming everyday. We have already seen an intense match where it was Stefanos Tsitsipas who got the better of the world number 2 player in Jannick Sinner in the semi finals. With one finalist fixed it is time to concentrate on the second game which will also feature two great players in the mix to see who will be facing Tsitsipas on Sunday.
The match featured current world number 1 Novak Djokovic and upcoming talent Casper Ruud. Although Djokovic was the favourite to win this encounter seeing his recent form, we cannot leave out the likes of Ruud who has had wins over top players like Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune in major tournaments. Like the first game today we could not expect it to be a one sided victory for Djokovic which he has been getting most of the time in the tournament.
Ruud does the unthinkable
This match as usual started in surprising fashion as Djokovic lost his first set of the tournament to Casper Ruud. The Norwegian is the first player to put the 24 time grand slam winner on the backfoot. Ruud won the first set 6-4 which got the Serbian powerhouse thinking. However, Djokovic came back in the second set and completely destroyed the 3-time grand slam finalist with a score of 6-1 to get back into the game. Despite the thrashing there was still one more set and it could still be anybody’s game. It was Casper Ruud who finally got one over Djokovic in the all important match with a score of 6-4 in the last set.
This was another gruelling game where we saw a rare struggle from Djokovic. Casper Ruud, who was under pressure after a disappointing second set, came back and won the game in the third set in great fashion. With this he makes it to his first Monte Carlo final which he will be up against Stefanos Tsitsipas. This was another great semi final where once again saw a young talent in Casper Ruud who got his first victory over Djokovic and will have his eye on his first ever Monte Carlo title.
