The game of tennis in the Paris Olympics 2024 has been a tournament to remember for everyone and we have enjoyed this great competition featuring some big stars of the game who have impressed us with brilliant performances so far. There are also quite a lot of players who are favourites to get their hands on a medal in this event as well as some great legends and upcoming stars in the mix.
One of the biggest favourites to win a gold medal in the Olympics are Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. While Djokovic is already a living legend of the game with a lot of Grand Slams to his name, the only thing missing from his trophy cabinet is an Olympic Gold medal. This has been the only event where the Serbian has not gone on to win anything bigger than a Bronze in 2008. On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz has already won two Grand Slam titles this season and will be going after an Olympic Gold medal. This will be another major achievement for the young Spaniard who has been one of the upcoming stars.
Boris Becker chooses his favourite
There are still a lot of games to go in this contest, but there is no doubt that it is Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz who the fans and experts will have a massive debate on who will win the Gold in the men's singles event. Even tennis legend Boris Becker has given his opinion on this matter. Becker has gone on to choose Novak Djokovic as the favorite to win the Gold medal saying " Before the tournament started, I put Novak Djokovic as the favourite, Now Jannik Sinner has defaulted, but Carlos Alcaraz is still very much in the draw. I think Novak has a good chance to at least medal. I would say Djokovic is the clear favourite."
This makes sense since Boris Becker has also coached the 24-time Grand Slam winner to multiple titles as well, while for some people it might be biased, he still does not leave out the fact of how good Alcaraz has been in the tournament as well. Becker is one of the biggest legends of the game and his words say a lot about how impactful have Djokovic and Alcaraz been in the game of tennis.
