Australian Open 2025: Unseeded Alex Michelsen beats Karen Khachanov in third round

Unseeded Alex Michelsen defeated Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open at the John Cain Arena of Melbourne Park on January 18 and made it to the next round of the showpiece event. The 20-year-old tennis player had a stunning start to the game, winning the first set comfortably.

However, Khachanov staged his comeback in the second set, but the American sensation maintained his resilience to win the second set as well. He continued his beast form heading to the third set and ensuring his straight-sets win.

Despite this thrilling win, the 20-year-old made the bold headlines when he defeated legendary player Stefanos Tsitsipas. It's worth mentioning that Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered a shocking early exit from the showpiece event after suffering defeat by 20-year-old Michelsen in the first round.

Meanwhile, after the thrilling win, the American star acknowledged that he had played an exceptional game in the third round and defeated his opponent. The 20-year-old tennis player has been in great form and will be looking to pose a big threat to some of the legendary players with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner. 

"I played unbelievable for most of the match; don't think I've ever hit my forehand that well. I'm super happy and hope to keep this momentum going. Mom, hi. Sorry, I only called you for like a minute today. I’ll call you soon. I had things to do. I love you. I miss you," Alex Michelsen said after reaching 1st Slam R16 atthe  Australian Open.
