Tennis star Jasmine Paolini defeated Sijie Wei in the first round of the Australian Open 2025 at the Melbourne Park and made it to the second round of the showpiece event. The Italians had a great start and won the first set by 6-0. However, Wei marked her return in the next set and showcased her stellar display, but ultimately it was Paolini who maintained her winning momentum and defeated her to win the straight sets game and made it to the second round of the showpiece event.

Jasmine Paolini expressed her happiness after winning the first round of the 2025 Australian Open on Tuesday. She also recalled her unexpected loss in the 2024 Australian Open when asked about the same.
The 29-year-old tennis star was extremely ecstatic, as she has never ever won the game in Melbourne City, but her thrilling win set the tone for the next round and gave her confidence. The Italian further acknowledges that her thrilling win over Wei instills confidence in her.
“Last year was unexpected, for sure. It was amazing. But it’s a new year. I’m happy to be back in Australia. Before last year, I never won a match in Melbourne. The first match last year gave me so much confidence. It’s great to be back here. I love the tournament. I love the city. I love the people," said Jasmine Paolini after beating Wei at the Australian Open.
