World number one Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro by 6-3, 7-5 in the second round of the Australian Open 2025She now heads to the third round of the women's singles competition. The Belarusian showcased her stellar display in the first set of the game, but Bouzas marked her stunning comeback in the second set. However, the defending champion kept her poise in the game and thwarted her in the second set at Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park.

Notably, Sabalenka has come into this tournament after winning the titles in 2023 and 2024. If she wins her third consecutive title, she will be the first woman to do so in the Australian Open since 1997. The 26-year-old tennis star started her journey with winning the Brisbane International 2025 title earlier this month and now sets her sights on winning the first Grand Slam of the year.

What next for Aryna Sabalenka?

Sabalenka expressed her happiness after she made it to the third round of the Australian Open. The 26-year-old is now set to face Clara Tauson in the third round, slated to take place on January 17.

“I want people to know I’m not that crazy off court. It’s only the on-court Aryna. I have to say I’m a nice person off the court… I’m not sure if my team will agree with that. But I’m nice, I promise. Definitely the people... Ok.. I have to say... today you guys were cheering a bit more for her. But it’s ok, I forgive you," Sabalenka said after beating Bouzas Maneiro at Australian Open.
