De Minaur failed to get a great start to the game as he suffered defeat in the opening set. However, the star player turns back the clock to defeat the 26-year-old Argentine star to reach the pre-quarters.

The Sydney-born star now holds a 16-0 record against players ranked lower than him at the hardcourt majors but had never thwarted a seed before he headed to the Rod Laver Arena under the mid-afternoon sun.

Earlier, Alex de Minaur defeated Tristan Boyer in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open before heading to the third round. The 25-year-old star player maintained his classic dominance from the first set itself and continued in all three sets to mark the straight-set win by 6-2, 6-4, and 6-3 before winning the clash against the Argentine.

"You put in a lot of hard work in the offseason and this is where you see the results. I am extremely happy. I felt great out there. It is easy to feel so good on this court with this amazing crowd. Something you can always count on is if I don't play my best, I will compete until the end," De Minaur said after the win in Round 3.
