The WTA tennis star Aryna Sabalenka is nearing a major milestone and achievement which she aimed before the end of this season. She is on her way to sealing the world's no 1 ranking by the end of this year if she maintains her unbeaten run in the WTA finals.

The US Open and Australian Open champion defeated the Italian WTA star Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 7-5 in the WTA finals campaign. She earlier defeated China’s Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets. This was her second straight win of her campaign.

On the charge of being the World's No 1

Talking about her win against Paolini, Sabalenka said “I would say that overall the whole match was a tough match. She’s such a great player. She was putting so much pressure on me and serving well, Moving great. She’s a great player and I’m super happy with this win.

The second set was quite tricky. Honestly, I don't know- I was just trying to show her that I was going to fight for this set no matter what. I'm really happy to close this match in straight sets.” These two victories have sealed the Belarusian tennis stars target achievement of becoming the world No. 1 by the end of this year. The current World No. 1 Iga Swiatek's chances of defending her Number 1 spot are dimming.

If Sabalenka Defeats Elena Rybakina in her next match she will be guaranteed the world no 1 spot by the end of this year. Aryna is now qualified for the semi-finals and if she reaches the final, she will achieve her number 1 spot. Iga Swiatek also got some chance but it is very hard in Riyadh. To stay as World's number 1 player she now needs Sabalenka to lose her remaining matches. The Polish player also needs to win her remaining matches like the win against Barbora Krejcikova. Her Number 1 spot is now mostly dependent on Sabalenka losing.
