Aryna Sabalenka wins a thrilling three set battle against Qinwen Zheng in the Wuhan Open finals and gets closer to completing her goal of finishing as the World number 1 this season.

3-time Grand Slam winner Aryna Sabalenka has a successful campaign in Wuhan as she won the title after beating Chinese number 1 Qinwen Zheng in the finals. This title takes her closer to the number 1 spot in the WTA rankings and keeps her chances alive this season. The Belarusian will be hoping to finish on top and overtake Iga Swiatek at the end of the season.

The player who has been the most impressive in the WTA so far has been Aryna Sabalenka who has had another great season, especially on the hard courts. The Belarusian has gone on to win 4 titles this season which also includes the Australian and the US Open. Though there was a period where she was struggling with injury she has still managed to become one of the most successful players and still has a chance to finish on the top of the WTA rankings.

Wuhan's victory gets Sabalenka closer to World number 1 in the rankings

This was a great tournament for Sabalenka who battled through a 3-set match against fan favorite Qinwen Zheng in the finals and emerged victorious in the end. This WTA 1000 victory has also made sure Sabalenka gets some big points that have taken her closer to being the World number 1. This victory takes Sabalenka to 9716 points and she is just 69 points away from the current World number 1 Iga Swiatek. It was also revealed that it was one of her goals to finish as the World number 1 at the end of the season as well.

This makes the battle for the number 1 spot even more exciting where we also might get to see Swiatek as well. Sabalenka is currently having a great run in the hard court season and she there is no doubt that she will be looking to end her season on a high during the WTA finals in Riyadh.
