Ahead of her Battle of Sexes match against Nick Kyrgios, Aryna Sabalenka fired shot at the transgender women. While the Belarusian claimed that she doesn't have anything against them, she believed that they should not play in the WTA. The WTA World No.1 believed that the transgender women have an advantage over biological women.

Sabalenka and Kyrgios showed up on Piers Morgan's show, where the former was asked transgender women in WTA. The star player regarded it to be a tricky question and gave her thoughts. Sabalenka outright described transgender women to be men and claimed it's unfair on the part of biological women.

"It’s a tricky question, I have nothing against them, but I feel like they’ve still got a huge advantage over women. I think it’s not fair to women to face a biological man. They’ve been working their whole life to reach their limit and then she has to face a man - biologically much stronger," Sabalenka said.

WTA's criteria for women on the tour

Sabalenka's statement has gone viral and controversial given WTA doesn't allow transgenders to play unless they qualify a special critieria allowed by the International female Tennis board. As per WTA's criteria, only women with a blood testosterone level below 2.5 nonomoles per litre for a miminum of two years are allowed to take part.

Along with that, the women must produce all the required documents to confirm their identity. As of the 2025 season, no woman on the tour is a transgender. While fans agreed that Sabalenka was right in her point of view, they noted that no transgender woman is currently a part of the WTA on the tour.
