Sabalenka managed to push aside any lingering doubts from her past performances at the US Open. In last year's women's singles final, she was in control until Gauff, fueled by the enthusiastic Ashe crowd, made a remarkable comeback to take the title. Pegula seemed to be following a similar path this year, riling up the home fans with a remarkable second-set performance. However, this time Sabalenka stayed composed and scripted a different outcome.

Sabalenka Overpowered Pegula to become the Queen of Hardcourts
Sabalenka went on to win the US Open 2024 women’s singles title, defeating Jessica Pegula in straight sets. The Belarusian needed just an hour and 53 minutes to secure the victory with a 7-5, 7-5 win on Saturday, September 7, at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium. Pegula, playing in her maiden Grand Slam final, put up a strong fight, pushing Sabalenka in both sets. However, Sabalenka’s relentless power and precision saw her through, earning her the coveted US Open trophy.
With her title, Sabalenka can rightfully be crowned the queen of hard courts. She has already won two major titles at the Australian Open Cement, one in January of this year and the other in 2023. Apart from these, 11 of her 13 titles have been conquered on hard courts. As the No. 2 seed, she is currently on a 12-match hard-court winning streak, having emerged victorious at the Cincinnati Open just two weeks ago, where she beat Pegula in the final.
It's fair to say that Sabalenka has the more impressive CV. Her power, prominently showcased in the early stages of this final, has been a force to be reckoned with throughout this tournament. Moreover, the No. 2 seed has also demonstrated her versatility by approaching the net, executing drop shots, and skillfully wrong-footing Pegula with both pace and guile.
Sabalenka enters the list of the greats
The Belarusian is now the fourth player in history to achieve the Cincinnati- US Open double in the same season, joining the elite list of Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams, and Coco Gauff.
