There have been a lot of international-based tournaments in the world of tennis that feature some of the most iconic players in the setup. One of the tournaments which might be new but still holds a place as an ATP live tour event is the Laver Cup which started in 2017. This is a tournament that features the best players from all across the world and features two teams known as Team World and Team Europe.

The two teams also had their own non-playing captains who were responsible in setting up the teams and their matches in the tournament. For the last six years, it has been Bjorn Borg leading Europe and John Mcenroe leading Team World, who were not only legendary players of their time, but also had one of the best rivalries at their peak. The last tournament saw Team World win their second consecutive title and would look to defend their title for the third time this season.

Agassi was named as Team World captain

Though the Laver Cup is still a long time away from starting which normally takes place two weeks after the US Open, there are already some big changes taking place already regarding the tournament. It turns out that John Mcenroe will not be the captain of Team World in the upcoming tournament and is going to be replaced by former world number 1 and 8-time grand slam champion Andre Agassi. This looks like the perfect choice where another American legend takes the place of the other. This will really be a big role for Agassi who has not been involved in a lot of tennis since his retirement in 2006.

This will be the first time we are getting a new captain in the Laver Cup and it will be interesting to see what will be the plans of Agassi who will be leading the title defence for the Team World. This is another evolving phase of tennis where we are seeing some big faces make their way into the game which all the fans love and respect.
