American Frances Tiafoe praised Tennis legend Roger Federer in the post-match conference following his Quarter final victory.
America's Frances Tiafoe moved into the semi-final rounds at Flushing Meadows. In the US Open, Grigor Dimitrov retired due to injury during their quarter-final match, with Frances Tiafoe leading 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 and ahead by 4-1 in the fourth set. This unfortunate event resulted in Tiafoe being granted the victory.
Tiafoe’s triumph sustains the possibility of ending a 21-year gap without an American US Open men’s champion. He has demonstrated strong form on home ground, triumphing in a challenging five-set encounter against Ben Shelton and prevailing over Alexei Popyrin to advance to this stage.
In the fifth round, Dimitrov, who was seeded No. 9, faced some physical challenges and appeared to struggle with a left hamstring issue, affecting his performance. Despite receiving treatment and attempting to continue playing in the fourth set, he ultimately had to retire from the match. Dimitrov, a 33-year-old player from Bulgaria with a history of reaching major semifinals, cited a combination of factors contributing to his decision to withdraw.
