The French Open tournament director, Amelie Mauresmo, describes Rafael Nadal's 14 French Open titles as one of the greatest feats in sport. Notably, the star player won his first title back in 2005 after defeating Mariana Puerta, while he recently won in 2022. However, he sustained the injuries, which left him out for around 18 months. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic won the title in 2023.

Speaking about Nadal's journey, the Spaniard sustained the injuries during the Brisbane International in January, which made him miss three months of the game as the season began. He later missed the Australian Open before making his way to the Barcelona Open, which was followed by the Madrid Open 2024 and the Italian Open 2024.

Nadal has recently suffered a defeat against Hubert Hurkacz in round 64 of the Rome Masters 2024; however, he sets to mark his solid comeback in the French Open 2024.

However, Amelie feels that Nadal still has great fitness physically and mentally, and it's great and totally surreal to have 14 French Open titles to his name in his 20 years of career. Some sources have revealed that Nadal is set to play his last tournament, which is the French Open in 2024.

For me, it's one of the greatest feats in sport in general: Amelie Mauresmo

"It's too hard to say where it fits in. I think that physically, and mentally, it's a pretty amazing performance. In 20 years of Roland Garros, not even 18, to win 14 times is unreal. At the best of five sets, we're on a surface that's probably the most demanding on the circuit all year round. For me, it's one of the greatest feats in sport in general," she said.

“In fact, I'm taking a step back from it, in the sense that he's in control. And even then, it's not necessarily him completely. I know that it's his body that's going to dictate his decision. So I'm a bit philosophical about the whole thing. Of course, we want to see him here. We want to see him at Roland-Garros. He's at home here. Rafa and Roland-Garros, their stories are intimately linked now," she added further.
