Indian Hockey has started the centenary of its 100 years of formation. The official handle of Hockey India posted a 5-minute video of recalling the best moments of Indian hockey from the 1920s to the 2020s. On the 7th of November in 2025, Hockey India will complete its 100 years of existence, which is a great milestone.

The video featured India's golden period from 1928 to 1956, where they won six consecutive gold medals at the Olympics. The video featured India's all 11 medals at the Olympics and a historic World Cup win in 1975. The video also included the rough patch of the team for over three decades, from the 1990s to the 2010s.

The video featured India hosting the World Cup in 2018 and 2023. There was a mention about the formation of the Hockey India League and the rise of the women's team. The video included India's improvement with investment at the grassroots levels. The video featured the likes of Sir Major Dhyan Chand, Harmanpreet Singh, and others.

The video concluded by mentioning the two back-to-back bronze medals at the Olympics in Tokyo and Paris, respectively. Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India, spoke about the 100-year celebration of the sport in India. He said the relaunch of the HIL is a step towards the same.

"As we begin celebrations for 100 years of Indian hockey, the relaunch of the Men's Hockey India League and the inaugural Women's Hockey India League signify a momentous occasion. This year-long celebration is a tribute to our remarkable journey and a testament to our enduring legacy," said Dilip in the press conference.

The Hockey India President emphasised the need to excel in the sport like the golden days in the past. He felt HIL might be a big step towards the same. "We are excited to witness the thrilling matches and extraordinary talent that these leagues will bring, highlighting the spirit of excellence that has defined Indian hockey for a century," added Tirkey.
