According to the Election Commission, wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat won the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly election on Tuesday. After winning the vote, Ms. Phogat declared in her initial response that "truth has won."

With a margin of over 6,000 seats, the Olympian defeated BJP's Captain Yogesh Bairagi, a former Army officer, and Aam Aadmi Party member Kavita Dalal, a former professional wrestler and member of the opposition bloc INDIA in the center. At one point during the counting, Vinesh Phogat, who had led when the counting started, was falling behind. Nevertheless, she took back the lead and held onto it, winning easily. Amarjeet Dhanda, a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), won the seat in the 2019 election.

Parminder Singh Dhull of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) defeated contenders for the seat in 2014 and 2009. On October 5, Haryana held a single phase of voting, resulting in 67.90% voter participation. Voter participation in Julana was 74.66. On September 6, Ms. Phogat, who experienced tremendous Olympic heartache this year following her shocking disqualification, became a member of the Congress. Only a few hours later, she was on the party's candidate list. "A new era for me is beginning. "I hope athletes don't have to endure what we did," she remarked.

Ms. Phogat oversaw a protracted demonstration against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last year. The winner is anticipated to utilize the outcomes of the elections in Haryana to create a narrative in their favor in other states where votes are scheduled over the coming months. This is the first significant confrontation between the BJP and the Congress since the Lok Sabha polls.
