India had a tough time against Nepal in the match despite being the firm favourites to win. A lot of unforced errors meant Nepal was in the game throughout. In the first innings, India claimed 24 points with their attack. In reply, Nepal claimed 20 points. The 4-point lead was crucial heading into the second innings.

India, in their second turn, managed to claim just 18 points. A brilliant 3-minute raid from Nepal fetched them a bonus defensive point. The lead came down to three points with the final turn of the match. India held their nerves as the defenders did a good job of restricting the number of points to just 16 in the final turn.

'I'll never forget this moment' - Indian captain opens up on carrying the tricolor flag

India won the match 42-37. However, the players knew that it was far from their best performance. The Indian captain, Prateek Waikar, spoke about the same after the match. Prateek claimed it was a wonderful start to the Kho Kho World Cup.

While he was happy for the players, he understood the need for improvement. "It's a wonderful beginning, and that's how we needed to start this World Cup. I am happy with the players, but I also think that some improvement needs to be done," said Waikar.

The Indian captain spoke about athletes from different sports carrying the Indian flag on different occasions. He claimed it to be a proud moment to do the same. "I have seen big players from various sports carrying the tricolour on numerous occasions—today it was me, and I'll never forget this moment," added the Indian captain.
