WATCH: Kenny Omega and Gabe Kidd engage in scuffle exchange backstage

After hinting at his comeback to the ring, top AEW star Kenny Omega, who hasn't competed in the ring since December 2023 due to diverticulitis and many operations, returned to NJPW this past Monday at the 2024 Power Struggle event and got rough with Gabe Kidd. Hiroshi Tanahashi, the president of the NJPW, said in a statement that Gabe Kidd had been fined and given an official warning for fighting with Omega at Power Struggle 2024 in Osaka, Japan.

At NJPW Power Struggle, drama broke out when wrestlers Gabe Kidd and Kenny Omega got into a backstage fight after Omega had just addressed the Osaka fans. Kidd confronted the AEW star directly about the event because he was upset that Omega had mispronounced his name in interviews. Before officials stepped in to separate the two wrestlers, the altercation swiftly got out of hand and turned violent. Online footage of the scuffle has emerged, escalating the continuing discussion about the incident.

Kidd received an official warning and a fine from NJPW President

In response, Kidd received an official warning and a fine from NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi for his involvement in the incident. Additionally, he apologized to AEW and Omega, reaffirming NJPW's dedication to upholding professionalism and strong connections with partner organizations.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, the president of the NJPW, scolded Kidd and punished him for his involvement in the fight. In addition, he expressed regret for Kidd's behavior to Kenny and AEW. In his remarks at NJPW Power Struggle, Kenny stated that he would want to compete at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.

Omega's possible involvement would be a major comeback following his sabbatical due to diverticulitis and surgery, even if no match has been formally announced. Fans are left wondering if this altercation will remain a one-off backstage event or if it will lead to an in-ring feud.
