Rey Fenix shares a mysterious post following his brother Penta's WWE debut

Regarding his future with AEW, Rey Fenix has stoked rumours once more. Using a straight jacket and what seemed like a cell, the former AEW Tag Team Champion shared a mysterious image of himself on Twitter on January 18, 2025. The image was immediately seen by fans as a covert barb at AEW, who seemed to be feeling confined by his present deal.

Fenix has made references to their dissatisfaction with AEW previously. The Lucha Libre star gained notoriety late last year when he removed tweets that accused the organisation of treating him inhumanely and ignoring his medical requirements. In the past, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer suggested that Fenix might be looking at methods to break out of his AEW contract, which had been extended because of injury time.

Meltzer added that there are whispers that Fenix may be leaving WWE because the company seems to have innovative ideas for him. ADW recently took all Rey Fenix products down from their online store, sending fans to a 404 error page, which only served to fuel rumours. Fenix's tenure at AEW may be coming to an end, according to many, given this odd situation and his public complaints. Penta El Zero Miedo, his brother and previous tag partner, made his WWE RAW debut lately, giving fans hope that Fenix may follow suit anytime soon.

Lucha Brothers to join WWE

Earlier this month, Penta made his WWE debut on RAW, putting a stop to any rumours that the Lucha Brothers may join the business. Due to the addition of injury time to his contract, the second member of the duo is still legally obligated to AEW. Recent reports indicate that there is little indication that the situation will improve anytime soon.

Even though AEW hasn't publicly addressed the matter yet, the controversy surrounding the company's treatment of his status is only getting more heated in light of Fenix's cryptic remark. Whether this is a premeditated attempt by Fenix to pressure AEW or whether there is more to the backstory, fans are left wondering.
