Swerve Strickland successfully defended his title on AEW Collision. The AEW World Champion beat Claudio Castagnoli in the main event of the night and showed why he is amongst the best Wrestlers in the world. The world champion was in the show earlier in the night and cut his maiden promo as the world champion. It turned out to be a good one.

The promo was just what was required from a top baby face. Strickland claimed that his reign as the champion marked a new era in the company. So far as the champion, Strickland has defended his title twice. Against Kyle Fletcher, he had his maiden title defence. Against Castagnoli, he faced a stiff challenge. But the calibre of Strickland was on full display as he had the last laugh.

After his promo, Strick gave an open challenge to the wrestlers on the roster. In came Claudio and challenged him for the title in the main event. The match was good and revolved around the finisher of Swerve. Claudio gave a tough fight for Swerve but the champion was way too good. In the first few minutes of the match, there was a bit of domination from Claudio.

However, the world champion was able to quickly adjust to the calibre of the former WWE Superstar. Before the first ten minutes of the match, Strickland delivered his first Swerve Stomp. But Claudio kicked out at two. Castagnoli came up with his trademark moves like the House Call Attempt and the European Uppercut. Claudio also tried to deploy a giant swing towards the champion.

The world champion was prepared for all of them and countered them well. He then delivered the second Swerve Stomp to Castagnoli. The latter was able to kick out at two again. Towards the end, Claudio aimed for yet another European Uppercut and popped Stricklamnd through the air. However, Swerve countered it and delivered a Swerve stomp. He successfully pinned the excellent wrestler to retain the title.
