In a thrilling encounter at the Paris Olympics 2024, India's men's hockey team showcased their resilience and defensive prowess as they faced off against Belgium. India and Belgium are currently tied at 1-1. India had a narrow 1-0 lead after Abhishek Singh's spectacular goal in the second quarter however they lost it in the next quarter. 

Meanwhile, one of the biggest moments of the game came when Belgium was awarded a penalty corner in the second quarter. The world number 1 team was threatening to level the score but Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh had some other plans.

All eyes turned to India's seasoned goalkeeper, who has been a stalwart for the team throughout the tournament. Known for his sharp reflexes and unyielding spirit, Sreejesh was once again at the heart of India's defence as he stood between Belgium and their equalizer.

As the Belgian players lined up for the penalty corner, the tension in the stadium was palpable. The ball was struck with precision and power, but PR Sreejesh, with his eyes locked onto the ball, anticipated the shot perfectly. In a split second, he came directly in line deflecting the ball away with both legs closed. 

Sreejesh's reaction after making the save was a moment to behold. The veteran keeper, fully aware of the significance of the stop, erupted in celebration. He gave out a ‘meet me first’ reaction and triumphant yell.

India qualified for the quarterfinals!

Notably, with two wins and a tie game in their first three matches India has ensured their qualification for the Quarterfinals. They have been phenomenal with a 1-0 win against New Zealand and Ireland and a 1-1 draw against Argentina. After this match against Belgium India will face another big challenge as they will lock horns against the Australian team on August 2.
