In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, table tennis star Sreeja Akula secured a memorable victory on her birthday. With this win, she clinched a spot in the Round of 16 in the Women's Singles event at the Paris Olympics. Akula's remarkable performance saw her overcome Singapore's Jian Zeng in a gripping encounter that ended with a scoreline of 9-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-5, 10-12, 12-10.

The 26-year-old Akula, who has now become only the second Indian to advance to the pre-quarters in Olympic table tennis, joins compatriot Manika Batra in this historic achievement. Akula's journey to the Round of 16 was nothing short of spectacular, with her birthday providing the perfect backdrop for her landmark performance.

The match began with a challenging start for Akula as she lost the first game 9-11. Jian Zeng showed aggressive returns and took advantage of Akula's initial struggle. Despite Akula’s spirited effort towards the end of the opening game, Zeng managed to secure an early lead.

However, Sreeja Akula's response was nothing short of remarkable. In Game 2, she demonstrated a formidable comeback, leveraging her serves to trouble Zeng and level the match with a 12-10 win. This set the stage for a dominant display from the Indian player, who excelled in Games 3 and 4. 

Akula lost game 5 despite valiant efforts!

With sharp and strategic play, Akula secured these games with scores of 11-4 and 11-5, showcasing her prowess and putting pressure on Zeng. Game 5 was a testament to both players' tenacity, as Zeng fought back fiercely.

Despite Akula's valiant effort and a nail-biting finish, Zeng took the game 12-10, briefly halting Akula's momentum. Nevertheless, Akula's determination did not waver. In the decisive sixth game, she maintained her composure and clinched victory with a 12-10 win, ensuring her place in the Round of 16.
