‘You need to have the mentality…’ Cristiano Ronaldo takes fresh aim at Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag

It is no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo has no love lost for current Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag. The Portuguese Superstar left Manchester United in 2022 after criticizing the Dutch coach during an interview with Piers Morgan. 

The former Number 7 stalwart recently spoke to former teammate Rio Ferdinand. During the chat, Ronaldo said, “Man Utd, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion. The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the League and Champions League.”

Erik Ten Hag is already under pressure after just three games into the season. After winning the opening game at home to Fulham, the Red Devils have lost their next two games. After losing to Brighton and Liverpool, the former EPL champs will take on Southampton on Saturday. 

Cristiano Ronaldo wants Erik Ten Hag to show winners mentality 

Currently, playing for Al Nassar the former Manchester United star said that Erik Ten Hag has to show winners mentality. The United coach had said that the side is still away from challenging for the top honors both at home and in Europe. 

Ronaldo said to Rio Ferdinand “As a Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you're not going to fight to win the league or Champions League. You have to be, to mentally say, listen, maybe we don't have that potential, but I cannot say that. We're going to try. You have to try."

The former multiple times Champions League winner also said “When I'm back at Man Utd, I was very happy. I was one of the best scorers. I did unbelievable things with the club. My first season at the age of 37, I was the third-best scorer in the league. I scored all the group stage. I scored every game. Even in the league, I scored 17 goals or 18 goals. I did amazing!”

During his chat with Ferdinand, the current Al Nassr star went onto say “I believe that Ruud Van Nistelrooy is going to help because he was inside the club. He knows the club. He knows the fans. If the coach listens to him, I think they can improve a little bit the club.”

“If Erik ten Hag listens to Ruud, maybe he can . I think it can help a lot because he knows the club and the club should listen the guys who were there. You or Roy Keane or Paul Scholes or Gary Neville, whatever, Sir Alex Ferguson. You cannot, you cannot rebuild a club without knowledge. Not guys who work in office. They understand." Further said Ronaldo to Ferdinand.
